Keep Fresh Flowers Fresh
Keep Fresh Cut Flowers Fresh
Here's a quick tip for you to keep fresh cut flowers fresh in the vase for longer!
Cut the stems
Put in fresh water
Add a couple of drops of Melaleuca (Tea Tree) Essential Oil and a couple of drops of Lemongrass Essential Oil and about half a teaspoon of maple syrup (many people suggest raw honey which is great but if you don't have a good supplier of local raw honey or if you're vegan then maple syrup is a good alternative).
Putting sweet things into the water, such as honey or flower food, will help to nourish the flowers but it also encourages the growth of bacteria living on the flowers and in the water. The bacteria will thrive on the stems and flowers and they will soon wilt and die. By using Melaleuca in the water you are preventing bacteria from growing. The addition of Lemon Grass helps to ward against air-born bacteria. So you get to enjoy fresher flowers for longer!
